Are You Ready for Coaching? Is Coaching Right for You?

You have to find something that you love enough to be able to take risks, jump over the hurdles and break through the brick walls that are always going to be placed in front of you. If you don't have that kind of feeling for what it is you're doing, you'll stop at the first giant hurdle. George Lucas

Perhaps you already find some of what is said here is resonating with you. Yet coaching is not appropriate for everyone. If you are uncertain whether coaching is right for you, now, this simple questionnaire may help you get clear. For each statement, decide if it is mostly ' True ' or ' False' for you.

See the end to interpret your results.

  1. I've lost direction or, I am feeling stuck in my life. I want to open things up, create new possibilities, free up my energies and move towards a better life.
  2. I acknowledge that there are one or more areas of my life that I am less than happy with and I'd like help to make some positive changes.
  3. I know I must take responsibility for my actions, choices and future. I am committed to reassessing my life, gaining clarity about what I really want and following through to achieve success and fulfilment.
  4. I've reached a crossroads. I want to set empowering goals for myself and work towards them. I want a coach to keep me focused and help me be accountable to myself for my commitments.
  5. My goals are clear and realistic, I just don't know how to approach it all. Tangible results often elude me. I want help to make my goals a reality.
  6. I have a generally positive attitude and have been doing well but I have stopped moving forward. I value my life and recognize that coaching can be a very worthwhile investment in myself and my future. I am ready to make a firm commitment to my success.
  7. I am willing to face up to any self-sabotaging habits coaching may uncover and I am open to being supported and challenged by someone with my best interests at heart. I want to move on from thoughts and behaviours that are not working for me and replace them with ones that will work.
  8. I understand that a coach is not an 'expert' who will tell me what to do. I have a reasonable idea of what is most important in my life. I'm prepared to put in the effort, but with a skilled, supportive ally.
  9. My 'real' life and what I want always seem to be 'on hold' while I get a bunch of other things done first. I want help to get back on track.
  10. Some (or many) areas of my life are already working well and I am grateful. I still have a passionate desire to discover more of life's possibilities. I am willing to invest the resources and I can afford coaching without 'breaking the bank'.

  Interpreting the Results

If the majority of your answers were 'False', coaching is almost certainly not right for you, nor are you ready for it. You may need to examine your motivation. Are you sincere enough about improving your life to act? If you feel disappointed with how you scored, try again another time when you feel more open.

If some answers were 'False' or 'Not Sure' and several were 'True', you may be ready for coaching, but do get clear about the undertaking before you begin. Honouring the commitment (and thereby, yourself) is essential if you want to see strong results. Please call us if you need to discuss your situation.

If many of your answers were 'True', or if some of them are spot on, you are definitely a good candidate, ready for coaching. You have a clear desire for positive change and a willingness to work at it. That deserves congratulations. Call us!
